Oh my. These two are beautiful. Blue and White is available, Black and Blue is spoken for. Enjoy.

Lime and White
This one came out really good. By far one of our new favorites. We have a handful of new planes that are all glossed up and ready to shoot. Stay tuned for more to come. Enjoy.
One man's trash is another's man's treasure.
My friend Justin owns Falcons Body Board Shop here in Leucadia. We've teamed up with him in a program to reuse old fin boxes from his customers purchase. After the sale he asks them if they want the box. If not, then he gives them to us! Works out great. He's been selling a ton of fins this summer and we have been super stoked on getting all those boxes with which to ship handplanes. A win win for sure.
If you own a business, we encourage you to look around at your neighbor's business and see if there is anything you can pass along or you can use from them. Every business has waste and as they say, one man's (or woman's) trash is another's man's treasure.
More fresh ones on the way
We have been hard at work since Sacred Craft to get a fresh batch of new handplanes. Here's a sample of what's coming. More to come. Enjoy.
Recycled Fish - by Rodney McCoubrey
100% recycled trash. Made with love.
My good friend Rodney McCoubrey is an environmental artist here in Leucadia and is a huge influence on what we have going on with the Enjoy Handplanes. I've been collecting his art and gaining inspiration from Rodney for years now and as I look back I realize that the handplane project of saving and recycling foam, wetsuits and packaging was influenced heavily by the work and life of Rodney. For his way of life of gathering what others deem trash, making such beauty out of it and most of all having fun while doing it has been a model for me of how to live.
Here is to you Rodney for all that you do for our community and the world. It is truly a better place because of it. Enjoy.
For those of you who live in San Diego area, you can see Rodney's work this weekend at
San Diego Botanical Garden's event:

The Tee Shirt Guy -Barry Haun
Our friend Barry is the curator of the Surfing Heritage Foundation and is now a new honorary member of the Enjoy team. He is also know as the "Tee Shirt Guy" for his one off tees he make for events. This years favorite was "Aloha stops at the shore." Last year's was "I Hate Surfers." Rumor has it Brewer had one made this year to wear.
If you ever want to know anything about surf history or old boards stop by the museum or contact Barry. He is a wealth of knowledge.
Thanks to everyone at SHF for supporting us and doing all that you do to keep the heritage of surfing alive and well.
Enjoy.
Meet Kipp At Sacred Craft
If you're at Sacred Craft today, stop by our booth and meet Kipp, the master of the Enjoy color work and glass jobs. He will be the one that smells like resin. He doesn't get out of the glassing bay much but this weekend is Sacred Craft so we thought it would be a good idea for him to get some fresh air. See you there. Enjoy.
Win an Enjoy Handplane or GoPro Camera at Sacred Craft this Weekend
We are teaming up with the Surfing Heritage Foundation and GoPro at Sacred Craft this weekend. Look for us at the Surfing Heritage Booth.
On Saturday they will raffling off the Charcoal and Lime Green beauty above for becoming a member of Surfing Heritage that day. On Sunday they will be raffling off a GoPro Camera to people who join that day. We will be there both days. Stop by, say hi and check out some of the boards we will have on display. Enjoy!

John Mann's Mexi Blanket
Our friend John Mann in Washington ordered this custom Mexi Blanket for his quiver. He sent us this photo of his Austin kneeboard to match the color work. It turned out so beautiful, I seriously didn't want to send it to him.
John has been bodysurfing with handplanes since the late 60's early seventies. He told us this story...
I made my first handplane, in Santa Cruz, 1972, after returning broke from several months in El Salvador, and Costa Rica, getting the goods a few years ahead of the herd. I made it from scraps, picked from Jay Longley`s dumpster, as he was just starting up Rainbow Sandals. He saw me trying, to surf a flip-flop at the beach , and said to come on by.......
I make prosthetics, orthotics, and braces for kids who need help walking now, my board building days are in the past, but I sure enjoy what you guys are doing!
John has been a pleasure to work with. Super stoked on surfing in general.
Here's a shot of his original handplane from the 70's -- sporting Red Stripe (stiffer rubber) sandwich Layup, with two velcro straps, for pintail/moontail options. One of the nice ladies in the Rainbow Sandle shop sewed it up for him. I love it. Enjoy.
Mark Cunningham 1982
This video is great. Mark is an inspiration indeed. I've been a big fan for a long time. Enjoy.
Candy
Kipp made this one as an experiment in color and texture. It looks like a piece of candy. There is a lot going on but I have to admit it turned out really cool.
The process of making these handplanes takes awhile and is a labor of love. Each board we make is like a little friend to us. The process is interesting. You start off with a little white ghost and then when you add color it becomes alive, it takes on a personality of it's own that makes you want to see it take life into it's final form.
This little guy grew on us, as it had such a unique personality. I certainly didn't want to see it go, but it didn't stick around long. It was for sale for a day and it got snatched up by my friends and local water couple Rich and Allie. It made me feel better though that it was still in the neighborhood. Go have fun little candy board. You have good owners now and will spend many days slotted in barrels.
Brian Lam's New GoPro Handplane
Our friend Brian Lam over at TheScuttlefish.com ordered up a red orca for his quiver. Brian is a NorCal Ocean Beach local and plans to get some barrel pics with this bad boy and his GoPro HD.
If you've never seen TheScuttlefish.com site check it out. Brian is a lover of the sea and is gearing up to inspire ocean lovers all over the world. He has the background to do it, being one the authors ofGizmodo.com.
While you are on the site look at the video of a rover saving a sword fish stuck in a deep water oil rig. Unbelievable! http://thescuttlefish.com/2010/06/29/robot-saving-a-swordfish/

Jeff Mortenson's Quiver
Grandview local Jeff Mortenson just added a 1'3"handplane to his quiver. Painted up to match all his boards he will be taking it on his next trip to Nicaragua for some shore break barrels.
Thanks Jeff for supporting us and keeping foam from the land fills! Your surf karma is paid in full so enjoy some epic waves on your trip.
Gun Metal Grape Hand Plane
Well, turns out that he is into body surfing. So for the next three days straight Scott gets an ear full of how cool the hand planes are. Now Scott being a big kid at heart couldn't resist. He grew up body surfing with McDonald's trays with the boys on Oahu. So he called us up and had us save one for his son's birthday that week.
Now my hat comes off to you Scott because you are a genius. Not only did you hook him up with a great gift, you figured out the gateway board for him to be riding a fish one day. Supper smart. He'll be riding that bike still for sure, but now it will be to get him to the beach. I love it. Enjoy.
Mexy Blanket Hand Plane
Kipp's latest glass job, the Mexican Blanket. You have no idea how many times we glass these things and say out load that we wish we had a full size board like this. This is no exception. This one's up for grabs. Barrel love'n, van drive'n, hippies please inquire. She needs a good home with lots of time in the water. Contact us
Geeks.com Handplane
We did this one for our friends over at Geeks.com. For those of you who aren't familiar with them, they are a great business providing inexpensive computer parts to us computer geeks.
The great thing about their business, is not only that they provide fantastic pricing, but they are one of the first tech businesses that I have heard of who recycles and refurbishes computer parts and resells them.
You see a large part of their business is taking all those unwanted, excess computers and keeping them from the dump by refurbishing these computers and related parts and getting them back to store room quality. They will then resell the equipment to get it back into the tech food chain.
When I first got to see the company some 6 years ago, as a recycling nut, I was completely impressed by their business model. In an age of throwaway products they are the number one reseller of recycled tech products and on the first line of defense between the land fill and the proper reuse of computer parts.
They had us make this hand plane for them as they get what we are trying to do. They are supporters. They get that in every industry there is waste and the end to a life of a product. They also know that there are real ways to renew the life of the old products and clean up and reuse what's left over.
Thanks to the crew at Geeks.com for all the work they do to make the tech industry a cleaner place and for supporting us in our efforts to do what we can in the industry we love.
Do you want a super fun, recycled foam and neoprene hand plane? Contact us to order a custom one or to be put on our list when we send out what's available. Enjoy.
Enjoy Handplanes @ Surfy Surfy!
Yesterday was a big deal for Kipp and me. My friend JP at Surfy Surfy gave us the thumbs up and is now carrying our beloved handplanes.
On a personal level it was a huge compliment to have a second generation glasser be impressed enough to carry them. JP doesn't carry crap, and every single product in his shop he believes in. So you can see why we are so stoked.
On another level it goes to show that mission to do something positive environmentally in the surf industry is actually working! People are loving them and we are now not only saving foam from broken boards and manufacturing waste, we are now recycling old wetsuits as well to make our handles. More on that later...
This project has been an education as well as just plain fun. We are really excited to see how far we can take this and to see what sort of difference we can make in an industry that we love so much.
Stay tuned to see what happens next. We can't wait to find out ourselves!
These Things are Art!
Bob King sent me this photo of the handplane we made for him displayed proudly on his mantel next to his fine art collection. He keeps it there when it isn't in the water. I couldn't be more proud of this image. Rodney did a fantastic job of painting it up and it deserves to be there. These aren't toys honey... they're art! Love it. Enjoy!
Love'n My Vipers
Our good friend Bobby Beathard is a world champion bodysurfer. He is in his 70's and yet he is one of the best in the world. In fact you'll see him this year again at the world championship body surfing contest at Oceanside this summer. Poised and ready to take yet another win.
Bobby is always stoked to be in the water and talk to you about whatever is turning your glide on. For all the years I've known him I was never much of a bodysurfer. So when I started this project with the hand planes he took me aside and gave me some pointers. The first thing he told me was to go get some Vipers. So I did.
It's been a month now with the new fins and I couldn't be more stoked. They are more ridged then my last set of fins and have a great set up with neoprene on the inside top of the fin that keeps my feet from getting messed up. All and all a great setup and I'm catching more waves with my new found power.
If you are starting to bodysurf yourself then I pass on the same advice.
If you need a set I got mine at Falcon's body Board shop right here in Leucadia. Good to support your local shops. Justin is a great guy and he'll hook you up with all sorts of advise. www.falconsbodyboardshop.com/
If you buy some from him give us your box and we'll give you a wax buddy. We are reusing them to ship hand planes in!
Thank you Bobby for being such a great friend and influence all these years. We really appreciate it!
Happy Memorial Day Weekend
Here's some red, white and blue resin tent goodness to get you in the holiday spirit. These little beauties' are fresh from Kipp's garage shaping and glassing factory. Apparently Kipp was feeling a bit patriotic when he glassed these. These two are from the new collaboration between he and I. I shape, he glasses and we both have more fun than we can stand. All while helping out the planet!
For those of you who have been following our handplane shenanigans, we have saved 7 boards form the landfill so far. From that we have made or will make a few dozen new handplanes that will reenter the world to bring fun and stoke to their new owners.
We have also discovered a whole new category of "Manufacturing Waste" that comes when a blank is broken or damaged while machine shaping. Next week we will meet with one of the largest machine companies and see what we can do to help save their manufacturing waste from the land fills.
This project has opened our eyes to new possibilities, partnerships and plain old fun. If you know of any manufacturing waste that goes on in the surf industry or have broken boards that you would like to donate pleasecontact us. We'd love to hear from you. Enjoy.
New Lover of the Handplane
Tony scored this tie die broken board handplane from his brother Jason for his birthday. Seriously, Jason, you win the best brother award for sure. Have fun with it Tony! Send me some shots!
Photo Via Handplane
I love digging through troves of photos to stumble upon a little gem that shines in the rough. I'm having fun with this. Enjoy.
First Go With the GoPro and Handplane - It was a blast
The whole set up works great. The camera worked flawlessly and the handplane setup was perfect. It was easy to shoot, manage the camera and catch waves. The setup is so light you don't even notice the camera at all.
I came back with 700 plus shots and video that blew my mind. I have never relived a session like that. It definitely opened my mind to some ideas for making some films. The wheels are turning. Thank you again to Kipp for all your hard work and GoPro for making this happen! Enjoy.
Rodney Fish - Enjoy Broken Board Handplane
Local Bob King and his son Gus picked up their handplane today. This board is special to me. It came from the Murphy's Iron Cross. It was the first one I shaped. Kipp of course did a great glass job on it and my good friend Rodney McCoubrey painted it up. The pictures don't even do it justice. It is a work of art for sure.
Thank you Bob and Gus for supporting our efforts! Thank you everyone who have been sending us boards as well. We have saved 5 boards so far and have had a heap of fun doing it.
